Berry Corporation is an independent upstream energy company headquartered in Dallas, Texas (though with operational roots in California). The company traces its origins to 1909, when Clarence Jesse Berry founded oil operations in the San Joaquin Basin, eventually forming multiple small oil companies that merged over time into today’s single entity.

Berry’s core business is exploration, development, and production of conventional, onshore oil and natural gas reserves, with a focus on low geologic risk, long-lived fields. Its operations are concentrated in California’s San Joaquin Basin (e.g. fields such as Midway-Sunset, South Belridge, McKittrick, Poso Creek) as well as Utah’s Uinta Basin (including Brundage Canyon, Ashley Forest, Lake Canyon).

Berry also runs a well servicing and abandonment services segment (via subsidiaries such as C&J Well Services / CJWS) that handles wellsite services, abandonment operations, and water logistics—especially in California—both for itself and for third parties. This integrated setup helps Berry internally manage field operations, maintenance, and end-of-life well obligations alongside its upstream portfolio.
