CHS Inc. is a farmer-owned agribusiness cooperative headquartered in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. It grew out of cooperative roots in the Upper Midwest and evolved into a diversified enterprise built to connect agricultural producers and local cooperatives to broader markets.

The cooperative’s model centers on creating scale and stronger market access for its owners—farmers, ranchers, and member cooperatives—by coordinating supply chains, logistics, and distribution. CHS describes its purpose as “creating connections to empower agriculture,” reflecting its role as an intermediary between producers, inputs, and end-market demand.

In agriculture, CHS supports crop production through agronomy products and services—helping farmers source inputs like fertilizer and crop protection and apply them more effectively at the farm level. This farm-facing footprint is tied to a broader network designed to keep input availability reliable and responsive to seasonal needs.

In energy, CHS supplies fuels, lubricants, and propane—most visibly through the Cenex® brand—serving both agricultural operations and surrounding communities. This segment complements the farm supply side by supporting the fuel and maintenance needs that keep equipment, transport, and rural infrastructure running.

CHS also buys and markets the grains and other commodities that farmers produce and facilitates movement into domestic and international channels, connecting production regions with processors, end users, and export markets. Taken together, its agriculture, energy, and grain activities position CHS as an integrated cooperative platform that helps producers manage inputs, operations, and market access within one connected system.
