Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison) is a U.S.-based utility holding company that provides energy services to customers in the northeastern United States. The company was founded in 1823 and is headquartered in New York City. Con Edison is primarily engaged in the business of regulated electric, gas, and steam delivery, serving customers in New York City and Westchester County. The company operates through its subsidiaries, which include Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (CECONY), Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), and Con Edison Transmission, Inc. (CET).

 

CECONY is Con Edison's principal operating subsidiary and provides electric service to approximately 3.5 million customers and gas service to approximately 1.1 million customers in New York City and Westchester County. O&R provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers and gas service to approximately 130,000 customers in southeastern New York and northern New Jersey. CET, on the other hand, focuses on developing, owning, and operating transmission infrastructure.

 

Con Edison's operations include the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power and natural gas. The company owns and operates a number of power plants, including both fossil-fuel and renewable energy facilities. Con Edison is also investing in new technologies to modernize its energy infrastructure, such as battery storage and electric vehicle charging stations.

 

In addition to its traditional utility operations, Con Edison also operates a number of subsidiaries that provide energy-related products and services. These subsidiaries include Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses, Inc., which develops, owns, and operates renewable energy facilities, and Con Edison Solutions, which provides energy efficiency and other energy-related services to customers.
