Gatos Silver Inc. is a mining company headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, that explores, develops, and produces precious metal and other mineral assets in North and South America. The company's primary focus is on silver and zinc deposits, although it also produces gold, lead, and copper. Gatos Silver was founded in 2020 as a spin-off of Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining, a private mining company.


The company has three principal mining projects: Cerro Los Gatos and Los Gatos District in Chihuahua, Mexico, and the Victorio Project in Sierra County, New Mexico, USA. The Cerro Los Gatos mine is the company's flagship operation, consisting of an underground mine with processing facilities that began production in 2019. The Los Gatos District is a joint venture with Dowa Metals & Mining, a Japanese mining company, and is also located in Chihuahua. The Victorio Project, located in the southwestern United States, is still in the exploration stage.


Gatos Silver went public on August 14, 2020, with an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The company offered 18 million shares at $7 per share, raising $126 million in total. The IPO was oversubscribed, with demand exceeding the available shares. Since then, the company's stock has traded under the ticker symbol "GATO" on the NYSE.


The company's management team includes experienced mining professionals with extensive experience in exploration, project development, and mine operations. Gatos Silver's CEO is Stephen Orr, who previously served as the CEO of Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining. The board of directors includes several mining industry veterans and finance experts.
