YPF Sociedad Anónima (YPF) is Argentina’s leading energy company, operating a fully integrated oil and gas chain with significant market positions across the domestic upstream, downstream, and petrochemical sectors. Its upstream operations encompass the exploration, development, and production of crude oil and natural gas, while its downstream segment includes refining, petrochemical manufacturing, and the distribution of fuels and lubricants through an extensive network of service stations. YPF also engages in the commercialization of natural gas and electricity, positioning itself as a key player in Argentina’s energy infrastructure.

Founded in 1922 as the first state-run oil company outside the Soviet Union, YPF has played a central role in Argentina’s energy development. The company underwent privatization in the 1990s, leading to its acquisition by Spanish firm Repsol. However, in 2012, the Argentine government re-nationalized a majority stake in YPF, citing energy sovereignty as a strategic priority. Currently, the state holds a controlling interest in the company, with the remaining shares publicly traded on domestic and international stock exchanges.

YPF has expanded its operations beyond traditional oil and gas activities. The company has established subsidiaries such as YPF Luz, focusing on renewable energy generation, and YPF Litio, dedicated to the development of lithium resources for battery production. Additionally, YPF Tecnología (Y-TEC), a joint venture with CONICET, serves as the company's research and development arm, driving innovation in energy technologies.

As a vertically integrated energy company, YPF continues to invest in the exploration and development of both conventional and unconventional resources, including the Vaca Muerta shale formation, one of the world's largest reserves of shale oil and gas. The company's strategic initiatives aim to enhance energy self-sufficiency, support economic growth, and contribute to the diversification of Argentina's energy matrix.
